The international Session of 2023 Chinese Congress of Holistic Integrative Oncology Successfully Concludes in Tianjin, China


The international sessions, an integral part of the 2023 Chinese Congress of Holistic Integrative Oncology(CCHIO), was successfully held from November 17th to 19th in Tianjin.

Over 100 experts from different countries and regions congregated to exchange  ideas and perspectives by discussing and sharing the latest cancer research findings, so as to contribute to advancement of oncology and the reduction of cancer mortality rates. The  discussion included the topics of new strategies, latest discoveries in basics and  as well as and  of oncology.

The comprehensive discussion encompassed topics such as new strategies in oncology, cutting-edge discoveries in basic and frontiers research, as well as novel medicine and therapies.

With 4 international sessions, 19 academic units, and 18 hours, the event presented an academic feast for the field of oncology. Nearly 100 global academicians, leaders of international cancer institutions, global cancer advocates, and foreign experts attended the event. 60 speakers delivered captivating presentations, while 38 chairs provided professional commentary. This event attracted over 16.9 million online viewers from more than 20 countries, including America, Australia, Argentina, Bangladesh, China, Denmark, Egypt, Ecuador, Germany, India, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Qatar, Spain, South Africa, South Korea and Tunisia.

The attendance and richness of content surpassed previous editions of the conference, making it the most significant gathering to date.


International Session Ⅰ


Prof. Ying Wang, vice president of CACA(China Anti-Cancer Association), delivered a speech for the opening ceremony. She extended warm welcome to experts from China and abroad. Prof. Wang reviewed and summarized global achievements in oncology. Besides, she emphasized the significance of this conference, and wished the international session a success.

Prof. Yongzhang Nie, Deputy Secretary General of CACA, from Xijing Hospital, Air Force Military Medical University, chaired the opening ceremony.



Unit 1

Unit 1 was co-chaired by Prof. Kaichun Wu, vice president of CACA and Balázs Rozványi, president of Hungarian League Against Cancer.




 As the first speaker in Unit 1, Prof.Ying Wang offered a fascinating presentation with the theme of "The Role of NGO in Global Cancer Control - CACA's Practice and Contribution".

Prof. Eric Winer from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) shared his speech- "ASCO's Role in Global Oncology".

Prof. Tsetsegsaikhan Batmunkh representing the National Cancer Council of Mongolia gave a presentation about "Global Collaboration on Cancer Control in Cancer".

 Mr. Balázs Rozványi, from the Hungarian League Against Cancer discussed "The Role of the Hungarian League Against Cancer as a Civil Organization in Cancer Control". By sharing policies and practical experiences in their countries, they all emphasized the role of NGO and global cooperation in terms of cancer prevention and control, which is in line with CCHIO’s theme-- “Cancer Control, Winning in Integration.”

Unit 2

The chairs of Unit 2 were Prof. Anne W.M. Lee from the University of Hong Kong - Shenzhen Hospital and Prof. Dapeng Li from Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital (TMUCIH).

Dejan Djokanovic from University of Banja Luka gave his lecture on "Clinicopathological Characteristics, Treatment Patterns, and Outcomes in Patients with Laryngeal Cancer".

"CIP2A Coordinates Phosphosignaling, Mitosis, and DNA Damage Response" was delivered by Jukka Kristian Westermarck from Turku Bioscience Centre at University of Turku.

They respectively focused on laryngeal cancer and CIP2A, sharing research achievements from a new perspective, which was of high value for learning and reference.

Unit 3

This Unit was co-chaired by Prof. Ying Wang, vice president of CACA and Prof. Jinsil Seong, president of Korean Cancer Association.



Three speakers delivered impressive speeches.

Prof. Jinsil Seong, president of Korean Cancer Association, from Yonsei University, talked about "Strategic Application of Radiotherapy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Immunooncology Era".

Prof. Tianqiang Song from TMUCIH shared “Tianjin Experience in cancer treatment” by giving the presentation "Neoadjuvant Therapy for HCC: Tianjin Experience".

Prof. Amany Zekry from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) presented "The Interplay of Gut Microbiome and Cancer Immunotherapy: Mechanisms and Significance".

Unit 4

Unit 4 was co-chaired by AU Siu-Kie from Hong Kong Adventist Hospital Oncology Centre and Academician Yihai Cao from Karolinska Institutet, Sweden.

Yihai Cao’s speech had a theme of "Modulation of Global Adipose Metabolism Inhibits Tumor Growth--An Integrated Approach for Cancer Therapy".

Yong Lu from Cornell University Houston Methodist Hospital presented "A New T Cell Paradigm to Cure Advanced Tumors".

Francis Wekesa Makokh, the head of Human Health Research Programme and acting director of the Directorate of Research & Innovation at Mount Kenya University, talked about "Modulation of Global Adipose Metabolism Inhibits Tumor Growth--An Integrated Approach for Cancer Therapy".

They focused on the latest approaches to cancer treatment according to different cancer types, which helped to inspire medicine workers.

Unit 1

Chairs for Unit 1 were Prof. Kexin Chen, vice president of TMUCIH, and Prof. Gamal Amira from National Cancer Institute Cairo University, Egypt.

Unit 1 included three experts from China, Uzbekistan and Egypt, who respectively introduced the achievements in their institutions and countries in the fight against cancer and oncology, as well as their outlook for the future.

They were Prof. Dingzhi Huang, vice president of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute & Hospital - with his speech “National Perspecitve: TMUCIH's Role in Clinical Practice, Education and Research”.

 Prof. Abrorjon A. Yusupbekov, deputy director of Republican Oncological Scientific Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan,introduced "Oncological Service in the New Uzbekistan - Achievements and Points of View".

 Prof. Gamal Amira, director of the National Cancer Institute Cairo University, gave his speech "HIPEC Versus Systemic Chemotherapy in Recurrent Platinum-Sensitive Ovarian Cancer - NCI Cairo University Case Control Study".

Prof. Abbas E. Abbas from Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University spoke on "Robotic Thoracic Surgery in 2023, What is the Evidence?".

 Prof. Reza Malekzadeh from Tehran University of Medical Sciences gave his speech on "Etiology and Prevention of Esophageal Cancer in Golestan Province".

And Prof. Vanessa Fuchs Tarlovsky from Hospital General de México talked about "Assessment of Body Composition and Importance of Muscle Mass During Cancer Treatment".

Unit 4

Chairs for Unit 4 were Prof. Xueqin Yu of the University of Sydney and Prof. Yaping Liu of the Australasian College of Health Service Management.



Three speakers and their topics of presentations were repectively as follows: Pham Tuan Anh from National Cancer Hospital of Viet Nam - "Current Status of Immunotherapy in Viet Nam";

 Peter Baade from Cancer Council Queensland - "Australian Cancer Atlas: Measuring How the Impact of Cancer Varies by Location";

David Smith from University of Sydney - "Review of Australian Clinical Practice Guidelines on Prostate Cancer Testing in Asymptomatic Men".

Speakers in Unit 5 and Unit 6, as representatives of their institutions and societies, discussed cancer prevention and treatment at a macro level, including discussion of relevant work in their countries and advocacy for global cooperation.

Chairs in this unit were Prof. Chen Wanqing from National Cancer Center and Prof. Talal Jawad Sulaiman from Al Adan Hospital, Kuwait.

International Session Ⅲ

November 18th saw International Session III, which included the opening ceremony, six academic units and the signing ceremony.

Prof.Xianghong Peng, Medico Consultor of Centro Hospitalar Conde de São Januário and Prof. Lee Soo Chin, associate director of Research at the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore, acted as chairs for Unit 1.

Prof. Chng Wee Joo, director of the National University of Singapore Cancer Centre respectively with the topics of "Progress in Treating High-Risk Myeloma".

 Prof. Mohamad Mohty of Saint Antoine Hospital focused on the treatment of myeloma "Latest Advances in the Management of Relapsed/Refractory Multiple Myeloma", introducing the current progress in this field and thus providing a vision for the future.

 Prof. Quek Lynn from King's College London delivered a lecture on "Clonal Haematopoiesis to AML and Beyond".

Prof. William Hwang Ying Khee, CEO of National Cancer Centre Singapore, spoke on "Towards Population Health in Cancer Care in Singapore".

Prof. Corazon Ngelangel, President of Philippine Cancer Society, spoke on "Challenges & Perspectives of Global Cancer Control: Focus on Breast Cancer Control".

 Marek SmolárBreast from Martin University Hospital, Slovakia, spoke on "Elastographic "Virtual" Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Early Breast Cancer".

Orlando Benito Martinez Granera, co-founder of the National Cancer Foundation (Movicáncer- Nicaragua), Nicaragua, spoke on "Cancer in Nicaragua: Challenges and Opportunities".

The unit came to an end with "Comprehensive Support for Cancer Patients: INEN Breast Cancer Club Model" by Prof. Tatiana Vidaurre, president of the Peruvian Society of Cancerology.

Internatioal Session Ⅳ

International Session IV on November 19th successfully concluded the conference.

Unit 1

Two chairs in Unit 1 were Academician Han-Kwang YANG, Secretary General of Asian Oncology Society,who comes from Seoul National Univ. Hospital & Seoul National Univ. College of Medicine and Prof. Partha Basu from International Agency for Research on Cancer (WHO - IARC).

Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of CACA, Prof. Fan Daiming delivered an inspiring speech entitled "Development of Holistic Integrative Management of Cancer in China" . He reviewed and analyzed Chinese development and achievements of cancer prevention and control in recent years. He also put forward his personal reflections and insights on the characteristics of cancer incidence among Chinese people and the direction of future efforts.

Prof. Fan introduced the launch of China's first integrated diagnosis and treatment guideline -- CACA Guidelines for Holistic Integrative management of Cancer, which is conducive to closer exchanges and cooperation between foreign experts and China’s.

Next was Prof. Partha Basu, whose speech was "Artificial Intelligence and Future of Cancer Screening"

Then Prof. Nicolò Matteo Luca of the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) spoke on "Geriatric Oncology Moving the Needle towards an Evidence-Based Precision Approach for Older Adults with Cancer"

Prof. Dorothy Mary Keefe of Cancer Australia offered a wonderful presentation titled "Advancing Cancer Control in Australia".

The four lectures were of high academic value for the promotion of global cancer research, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control.

Prof. Daniel Campos gave a speech titled as "Addressing Challenges in Precision Medicine".

All of the three lecturers focused on the current situation of cancer prevention and treatment as well as existing challenges, which were highly pragmatic for formulating rational and efficient cancer prevention and control policies both locally and internationally.

Unit 3 was co-chaired by Prof. Ning Zhang and Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu, President of the First Lady Against Cancer.

Prof. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu gave her lecture "A Comprehensive Strategy for Cancer Care in Low and Middle-Income Countries".

Prof. Suleeporn Sangrajran from National Cancer Institute in Thailand spoke on “National Cancer Control Program in Thailand”.

And Prof. Sayed Ikram Hashimi of Afghanistan NCD Alliance discussed "Challenges of Cancer Control in Developing Countries".

The three experts analyzed the current situation of cancer prevention and control and existing problems, with a focus on the current situation, which would boost research and the practical work of cancer prevention and control.




The highly anticipated three-day-long International Session has drawn to a successful close, marking a significant milestone in oncology community.
